A couple of years ago, Martin Knight began a quest to delve into his family history. He even made contact with several living relatives who had known Ellen or some of the people and events she described.

The Bay City Rollers were one of the brightest things to happen in the tumultuous 1970s, illuminating a dark decade marred by falling stock markets, a plummeting economy and industrial unrest. The Rollers' juggernaut was out-of-control. Alan Longmuir recounts his surreal journey from the Dalry backstreets to the Hollywood hills and back to being a plumber. Along the way he punctures some of the myths and untruths that have swirled around the group. Most of all, though, Alan captures the great adventure that a bunch of young boys from Edinburgh embarked on that for a few years threatened to turn the whole world tartan. Tragically, while finishing his memoirs Alan Longmuir was taken ill while on a holiday in Mexico marking his 70th birthday and died back in Scotland a short while later. It was his great desire that I Ran With The Gang should be released.

British author Martin Knight was born at the end of the 1950s on the outskirts of semi-rural South London. Broken Wafers tells the story of his life on a council estate as he navigates the 1960s and the first half of the 1970s. Knight charts a period when Britain emerged from post-war austerity into a more vibrant, hopeful, comfortable and colourful age. He recalls everyday life in his multi-racial family and the thrill of the gradual arrival of such innovations as the refrigerator, the telephone, the colour television and hormones. Broken Wafers is an unashamed and forensic wallow in nostalgia.

Im Rahmen dieses von der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) geförderten Forschungsprojekts wurde ein neuer Dispositionsalgorithmus entwickelt, der künftige Störeinflüsse berücksichtigt und in der Folge robuste und widerstandsfähige Dispositionslösungen generiert. Verglichen mit konventionellen Dispositionsansätzen erfolgt die Disposition dabei proaktiv und die Kapazität wird durch iteratives Aktualisieren in einem rollierenden Zeithorizont bei gleichzeitiger Sicherstellung eines hohen Pünktlichkeitsniveaus gesteigert. Der entwickelte Dispositionsalgorithmus stellt ein hybrides Modell dar, das sowohl simulative als auch heuristische Ansätze miteinander kombiniert. Für jeden Abschnitt des rollierenden Zeithorizonts werden nahezu optimale Dispostionslösungen unter Rückgriff auf die Tabu Suche automatisch erzeugt. Durch kontinuierliches Aktualisieren des Eisenbahnbetriebszustands in einem Simulationstool können die anzunehmenden Störeinflüsse zeitlich passgenau berücksichtigt werden. Um den Nutzen des entwickelten Dispositionsalgorithmus zu evaluieren, werden die drei Indikatoren gesamte gewichtete Wartezeit, Anzahl relativen Umordnens und Kapazität analysiert.
