Using the case of tuberculosis control in Hong Kong as an example, this paper seeks to develop a systematic approach for understanding the conditions under which specific (bio) ethical implications of standardized global health strategies can be assessed. More specifically, the focus of attentionwill be on 'standardized treatment, with supervision and patient support' as part of the DOTS strategy (directly observed treatment, short course) to fight tuberculosis, officially launched by the World Health Organization in 1995.
