Gerry Bibby Livres

Over the past 50 years artist Gerry Bibby has inserted narratives and instructional texts into his artworks as acts of tactical withdrawal. The Drumhead, Bibbys first publication, includes a series of his Language Costumes or fragmentary texts which, like William Burroughss The Wild Boys or Robert Walsers The Walk, attest to an offended intelligence. Moving across performance, sculpture and writing, Gerry Bibbys artworks take form at the uncomfortable fissures between the three. His Language Costumes arrive at these junctions as self-styled instructional texts, photocopy machine manuals, drinks menus and poetic passages. His captivating passages brim with wit, wry observation and occasionally with disgust, offering viewers ways out even if only at the time of reading. Commissioned by If I Cant Dance, I Dont Want to Be Part of Your Revolution, The Drumhead follows a two-year collaboration with KUB Arena of the Kunsthaus Bregenz, The Showroom London, CCA Glasgow, and the Institute of Modern Art, Brisbane.

„Re-Discovery“ dokumentiert eine Ausstellungs- und Veranstaltungsreihe, in der die Arbeiten von älteren Künstlern in den Dialog mit denen von jungen treten. Sie fand im Autocenter Berlin von März 2014 bis Dezember 2015 statt. Von Inke Arns, Janneke de Vries, Francesca Gavin, Martin Germann und Ulrich Loock konzipiert, handelt es sich bei den älteren Positionen wie David Hammons, Ivan Kožarić, Sture Johannesson, Peter Rose und Marianne Wex um Künstler, die in Deutschland unbekannt, wenig bekannt oder eher dafür bekannt sind, blinde Flecken in der zeitgenössischen Kunstgeschichtsschreibung zu sein. „Re-Discovery“ beschränkt sich jedoch nicht allein auf das Ausstellen dieser Positionen im Sinne einer verdienten Wiederentdeckung. Vielmehr wurde ein Resonanzraum geschaffen, in dem ältere Arbeiten auf zeitgenössische Werke stoßen, mit ihnen korrespondieren oder Spannungen hervorbringen, durch die neue Sichtweisen und Kontexte entstehen. Künstler_innen waren Gerry Bibby, Shannon Bool, Laura Buckley, Erik Bünger, Carla Filipe, David Hammons, Nina Hoffmann, Sture Johannesson, Matt Keegan, Ivan Kožarić, Julika Rudelius, Jeremy Shaw, Peter Rose, Marianne Wex und Katarina Zdjelar.
