    • Vocabulary acquisition poses significant challenges in foreign language learning. This book introduces the Strategy-based Constructivist Approach (SBCA) to enhance self-directed vocabulary learning. It emphasizes that learners should actively discover and construct new word knowledge in authentic environments, leveraging their existing mental lexicon through individual or collaborative efforts. A key component of this approach is the use of processing-involved and interactive vocabulary learning strategies. To facilitate this, diverse and meaningful tasks are designed to stimulate the effective application of these strategies. Additionally, factors such as learning mediums, processes, and paths are crucial for realizing the SBCA effectively. To support the development of a courseware package that embodies the SBCA, a new framework for language courseware engineering is proposed, focusing on explicitness, systematicity, and practicability. This includes new vocabulary learning processes aimed at helping students utilize vocabulary strategies rationally and tailored learning paths that accommodate different learning styles for individualized learning. Ultimately, a prototype courseware called Learning Vocabulary In Domain is developed. This work sheds light on future research directions in vocabulary learning within the context of foreign language education.
