Georg Baselitz. 100 Drawings
From the Beginning until the Present
A retrospective with one hundred works on paper, commemorating the eighty-fifth birthday of Georg Baselitz. To mark his eighty-fifth birthday, the famous international German artist Georg Baselitz donated a collection of works on paper to both the Albertina Museum in Vienna and the Morgan Library in New York. This volume combines the one hundred sheets to create a representative retrospective, providing by virtue of its concentration an important contribution to the understanding of Baselitz's entire oeuvre. The two extensive sets of drawings and watercolors date from different creative phases, ranging from the early 1960s to the present day. Through this direct medium, the works provide an intimate insight into the artist's creative process across the past five decades. An interview with Georg Baselitz conducted to mark this publication provides information about the significance of the works on paper in the genesis of his works and within his oeuvre.
An in-depth look at art from a private collection, many of which are being shared for the first time. The Morgan Museum & Library in New York City will mark its centennial with a special exhibition featuring drawings from the collection of Jean-Marie and Elizabeth Eveillard. Liberty to the Imagination presents this gift of drawings to the Morgan for the first time and includes a catalog of the works with entries from art experts. The drawings, which were created between the seventeenth and twentieth centuries, include unique pieces from Rembrandt, Greuze, Delacroix, and Bonnard. The gift also includes rarely-seen sheets by major artists including Rubens, Guercino, Watteau, Constable, Seurat, Cezanne, and Vuillard. Drawing experts analyze each sheet in fully illustrated entries, exploring the creation and context of each piece of art. The artistic choices of each artist are analyzed to give readers a deeper understanding of how through art, the imagination is liberated.
This catalogue was published on the occasion of the Manolo Valdés, Los Materiales. Beck & Eggeling International Fine Art, 9 May - 13 June 2009.

The Museo Thyssen - Bornemisza in Madrid houses one of the world's finest private art collections. It was begun in 1920 by the Baron von Thyssen-Bornemisza and continued by his son, the present Baron. The museum was opened in 1992 after it was bought by the Spanish state. In March 2004, it will house for the first time the international works of the Baroness von Thyssen - Bornemisza, a remarkable collection of works by the greatest artists from the 17th to the 19th centuries. This collection contains fine examples of works that are rarely found in the Spanish public galleries, such as seventeenth-century Dutch painting and eighteenth-century artists such as Canaletto, Fragonard and Guardi. The heart of the collection is its nineteenth-century art, from Caspar David Friedrich and John Constable to the Impressionists and painters such as Corot and Daubigny. The holdings of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings are perhaps the richest and most striking. An initial selection of the Baroness'
