Der Jazzmusiker Till Brönner (geb. 1971) ist berühmt. Kennen Sie ihn auch schon als Fotografen? Seit Jahren ist er auch in diesem Genre erfolgreich unterwegs. Im vorliegenden Band stellt er seine ebenso spannende wie ungewöhnliche Sicht auf die Metropole Ruhr vor. Das Nebeneinander verschiedener Nationalitäten, Religionen und Kulturen hat er auf seiner Reise durch eine von Kohle und Stahl geprägte Region festgehalten, die sich heute in zukunftsorientiertem Wandel befindet. Das Ergebnis wird hier in sensiblen und eindrucksvollen Bildern erstmals präsentiert. Till Brönner, famous as a preeminent jazz musician, has devoted himself passionately and with perfectionism to a second talent, namely photography, for several years now. Travelling through the Ruhr Valley, he created unusual, previously unpublished photographic portraits of the region. Brönner was particularly interested in the faces of the former industrial hub of Germany, its architecture and the coexistence of various nationalities and cultures in the country’s largest conurbation.

Der Jazz ist wieder da. Als 2004 die CD »That Summer« des deutschen Jazz-Trompeters Till Brönner erschien, geschah ein kleines Wunder: Zum ersten Mal seit über 20 Jahren erreichte ein Jazz-Album die TOP 20 der deutschen Verkaufscharts. Brönner hat seitdem entscheidend zur Renaissance des Jazz in Deutschland beigetragen. Seine musikalischen Aktivitäten sind vielfältig und unkonventionell, was ihn zu einer herausragenden Figur der internationalen Musikszene macht. Vom Debüt-Album »Generations of Jazz« 1993 bis zu »Oceana« 2006 wurde er zum beliebtesten deutschen Jazz-Musiker, und mit »Rio« eroberte er die brasilianische Bossa Nova. Er produzierte Alben für Hildegard Knef, Manfred Krug und die No Angels und spielte mit Jazzgrößen wie Dave Brubeck und Natalie Cole sowie mit Carla Bruni und Annie Lennox. Neben seiner Musikkarriere ist Brönner auch Lehrer und Musikforscher. Er unterrichtet Jazz, führt regelmäßig »Talkin’ Jazz«-Veranstaltungen durch und ist Professor an der Dresdner Musikhochschule. In seinem Buch erzählt er von seinem Weg als Jazzmusiker und bietet Einblicke in die Welt des Jazz, seine Verbindungen zu Rock, Pop, traditioneller und klassischer Musik.
