This book contains the best papers of the Second International Conference on E-business and Telecommunication Networks (ICETE), which was held, in 2005, at the Microsoft Research Centre - Reading, in the UK. The conference was organized by INSTICC (Institute for Systems and Technologies of Information, Communication and Control) in collaboration with the University of Westminster/WITRC, UK. ICETE reflects a continuing effort to increase the exchange of expertise among professionals who work in the fields of e-business and telecommunication networks, including aspects related to security, wireless systems, signal processing, and all sorts of applications, who are bringing new services and technologies into the lives of ordinary consumers. The major goal of this conference was thus to bring together researchers and developers from academia and industry working in areas related to e-business to stimulate a debate with a special focus on telecommunication networks. Four simultaneous tracks were held, covering different aspects, namely: “Global Communication Information Systems and Services”, “Security and Reliability in Information Systems and Networks”, “Wireless Communication Systems and Networks” and “Multimedia Signal Processing”. Each of these tracks appealed to a global audience of engineers, scientists, business people and policy experts, interested in the research topics of ICETE. All tracks focused on specific topics of research and real world applications and relied on contributions from industry, with different solutions for end-user applications and enabling technologies, in a diversity of communication environments.

This book contains the best papers from the first two instances of the International Conference on Web Information Systems and Technologies (WEBIST 2005 and 2006), organized by the Institute for Systems and Technologies of Information, C- trol and Communication (INSTICC) in collaboration with the OMG (Object M- agement Group), held in Miami (USA) and Setúbal (Portugal) respectively. The purpose of WEBIST is to bring together researchers, engineers and practit- ners interested in the technological advances and business applications of web-based information systems. It has four main topic areas, covering different aspects of Web Information Systems, including Internet Technology, Web Interfaces and Appli- tions, Society, e-Business, e-Government and e-Learning. WEBIST received submissions from more than 40 countries in all continents. We are happy to note that from 110 submissions in 2005 WEBIST grew to 218 paper submissions in 2006, an increase of practically 100%. After a double-blind review process, with the help of more than 120 experts from the international program c- mittee, and also after presentation at the conference, 25 papers were finally selected to be published and presented in this book.

    • The present book includes a set of selected papers from the fourth “International Conference on Informatics in Control Automation and Robotics” (ICINCO 2007), held at the University of Angers, France, from 9 to 12 May 2007. The conference was organized in three simultaneous “Intelligent Control Systems and Optimization”, “Robotics and Automation” and “Systems Modeling, Signal Processing and Control”. The book is based on the same structure. ICINCO 2007 received 435 paper submissions, from more than 50 different countries in all continents. From these, after a blind review process, only 52 where accepted as full papers, of which 22 were selected for inclusion in this book, based on the classifications provided by the Program Committee. The selected papers reflect the interdisciplinary nature of the conference. The diversity of topics is an important feature of this conference, enabling an overall perception of several important scientific and technological trends. These high quality standards will be maintained and reinforced at ICINCO 2008, to be held in Funchal, Madeira - Portugal, and in future editions of this conference. Furthermore, ICINCO 2007 included 3 plenary keynote lectures given by Dimitar Filev (Ford Motor Company), Patrick Millot (Université de Valenciennes) and Mark W. Spong (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign).

This book contains the best papers of the 4th International Conference on E-business and Telecommunications (ICETE), which was held during July 28–31, 2007 in Barcelona, Spain. The conference reflects a continuing effort to increase the dissemination of recent research results among professionals who work in the areas of e-business and telecommunications. ICETE is a joint international conf- ence integrating four major areas of knowledge that are divided into four cor- sponding conferences: ICE-B (International Conference on e-Business), SECRYPT (International Conference on Security and Cryptography), WINSYS (International Conference on Wireless Information Systems) and SIGMAP (International Conf- ence on Signal Processing and Multimedia). The program of this joint conference included several outstanding keynote lectures presented by internationally renowned distinguished researchers who are experts in the various ICETE areas. Their keynote speeches contributed to the ov- all quality of the program and heightened the significance of the theme of the conference. The conference topic areas define a broad spectrum in the key areas of- business and telecommunications. This wide view has made it appealing to a global audience of engineers, scientists, business practitioners and policy experts. The papers accepted and presented at the conference demonstrated a number of new and innovative solutions for e-business and telecommunication networks and systems, showing that the technical problems in these fields are challenging, related and significant.

    • This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed proceedings of the 8th International Conference on Evaluation of Novel Approaches to Software Engineering, ENASE 2013, held in Angers, France, in July 2013. The 18 full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 46 submissions. The papers reflect a growing effort to increase the dissemination of new results among researchers and professionals related to evaluation of novel approaches to software engineering. By comparing novel approaches with established traditional practices and by evaluating them against software quality criteria, the ENASE conferences advance knowledge and research in software engineering, identify most hopeful trends, and propose new directions for consideration by researchers and practitioners involved in large-scale software development and integration.

    • This book features selected papers from the First International Conference on Agents and Artificial Intelligence (ICAART 2009), held in Porto, Portugal, from January 19–21, 2009. The conference was organized into two tracks: “Artificial Intelligence and Agents.” Out of 161 submissions from over 37 countries, 26 were accepted as full papers after a blind review process. Ultimately, 21 papers were chosen for inclusion, reflecting the conference's interdisciplinary nature. The diversity of topics showcases several significant scientific and technological trends. High-quality standards will continue to be upheld at ICAART 2010 in Valencia, Spain, and future editions. Additionally, the conference featured five plenary keynote lectures by esteemed speakers: Juan Carlos Augusto, Marco Dorigo, Timo Honkela, Edward H. Shortliffe, and Paulo Urbano. We extend our gratitude to all contributors, especially those who submitted papers for this book.
