European consumer law is one of the parts of European law where more than 490 million consumers in Europe may experience the positive consequences of the European integration themselves. This is in part the reason why consumer law has the renewed attention of the European Commission. Within the framework of the development of the Common Frame of Reference the emphasis is now on the improvement of (in particular) the consumer acquis, more precisely on the review of eight directives that relate to the sale of goods and services. In this contribution the author will examine these developments.

    • In the context of the harmonization of European contract law, this volume in the Principles of European Law series deals with mandate contracts, i.e. contracts whereby an agent concludes a contract with a third party for the benefit of a principal. The principles of European law on mandate contracts not only mirror the provisions on these contracts in the Draft Common Frame of Reference (DCFR), but also contain a more comprehensive explanation of these provisions. Moreover, they provide details on the functioning of mandate contracts in the laws of the EU Member States. Thus, the principles are conducive to advance the process of Europeanization of private law. ( Principles of European Law)
