Il "revisionismo storico" ha enfatizzato la componente operaia del nazismo , con l'intento di dimostrare che non si trattava di un fenomeno piccolo - borghese ma, al contrario, di un movimento dalle radici proletarie , in qualche modo contiguo all'ideologia degli stati del socialismo reale. Questo studio esamina criticamente la questione sollevata dai revisionisti, che hanno contribuito a rilegittimare l'esperienza Hitleriana nella coscienza collettiva, mentre andava indebolendosi la memoria storica costruita nella lotta antifascista. Bologna affronta dunque il problema della riflessione storica sul nazismo convinto che la polemica contro il revisionismo storico o è ricerca della democrazia sotto altre forme, oppure rimane fine a se a stessa.

Este libro analiza la situación de la clase obrera alemana durante las décadas de 1920 y 1930 (República de Weimar) poniendo de relieve las condiciones estructurales y existenciales de una fuerza de trabajo duramente golpeada por la crisis económica, el desempleo y la atomización empresarial, dinámicas todas ellas que con diversas matizaciones operan de uno u otro modo en nuestras sociedades actuales. Examina las fuentes historiográficas más importantes que permiten reconstruir las mencionadas condiciones sociales y económicas, efectuando una cuidadosa crítica de la presentación revisionista del nazismo y el fascismo.
