This text explores the passionate relationship between Oskar Kokoschka and Alma Mahler. Kokoschka was born in Austria in 1886. He was influenced by the works of Gustav Klimt and medieval artists such as Lucas Cranach and Albrecht Durer, and painted many notable paintings in a distinctive Expressionist style in his early career. However, it was his relationship with Mahler that greatly influenced his work. Kokoschka first met Alma Mahler on 1912, eleven months after the death of her husband. Three days after meeting, Kokoschka proposed to her in a passionate letter and they embarked on a stormy relationship which was to last only three years. The 20 paintings (including the "Bride of the Winds"), 70 drawings and prints (including "Alma Mahler") and 7 fans that bear witness to this relationship are discussed. Previously unpublished material including Alma Mahler's diary from 1912-13 is used to complete the picture of this extraordinary relationship.

Mit der internationalen Gruppenausstellung „Virtual Normality – Netzkünstlerinnen 2.0“ widmet sich mit dem Museum der bildenden Künste Leipzig erstmals ein Museum im deutschsprachigen Raum dem weiblichen Blick im Zeitalter digitaler Inszenierung. Mit jeder Welle des Feminismus und mit jeder Generation ändern sich die Prioritäten und Medien und mit den Medien die Themen und Möglichkeiten. Durch das Internet und die Sozialen Medien wurde die Debatte um Sexualität und Identität neu entfacht, Netzkünstlerinnen antworten mit einer hyperfemininen Ästhetik, sie geben sich aggressiv feminin oder mädchenhaft niedlich. Die ausgestellten Künstlerinnen reflektieren die weibliche Perspektive auf Sexualität, Identität und Weiblichkeit im digitalen Zeitalter. Ihr Material ist ihr Körper, die Realität und ihr Alltag, ihre Stilmittel sind Humor, Ironie, Groteske und Übertreibung. Bilingual edition (English/German) / Zweisprachige Ausgabe (deutsch/englisch) The Nigerian artist Eke Bright Ugochukwu works primarily with second-hand materials. His richly metaphorical installations are inspired above all by his homeland that is burdened by ecological issues. Inspired by a skin infection caused by acid rain, Eke developed an installation called “Acid Rain” for the 2006 Dakar Biennale of Contemporary African Art in Senegal. It is composed of a large number of small plastic bags filled with acidified water, which cumulatively have the appearance of a large toxic cloud floating in the space. The Ursula Blickle Foundation presents for the first time in Germany the vast “Cloud-Earth Twist” installation (a further development of “Acid Rain”) installation by the artist born in 1976 in Mbaise (Imo State).

Mit seinem Projekt „The Last Kings of Africa“ versucht der Dokumentarfotograf Alfred Weidinger auf einen schwindenden, aber sehr wesentlichen Aspekt der Genese der Menschheits- und Kulturgeschichte Afrikas hinzuweisen. Es sind die letzten Monarchen der großen Königreiche Afrikas, die er seit mehreren Jahren sucht und porträtiert. Noch haben sie ihre Traditionen und ihre Würde bewahrt, noch wird ihre Weisheit und ihre Macht geehrt. Doch sind sie längst zu einem lebenden Paradoxon geworden. In den vornehmlich schwarz-weiß fotografierten Herrscherporträts überleben sie und werden zu einem Vermächtnis an Afrika.

Nearly 250 photographs, some never before published, offer an intimate glimpse into one of the art world's most famous love affairs. Emilie Flöge was only a teenager when she met the painter Gustav Klimt, but their friendship soon evolved into a complex and loving relationship that lasted the rest of their lives. Alfred Weidinger, an acclaimed expert on Klimt and his contemporaries, has compiled an exhaustive collection of photographs relating to the artist and his designer muse. While Klimt took many of these shots, other photographers include Carl Schuster, Victor von Spitzer, Hugo Henneberg, Pauline Kruger Hamilton, Anton Josef Trcka (Antios), and unknown individuals who had access to the couple's private lives.
