Parallel and distributed processing and applications
    • Welcome to the proceedings of the 2003 International Symposium on Parallel and Distributed Processing and Applications (ISPA 2003), held in Aizu-Wakamatsu City, Japan, from July 2–4, 2003. Parallel and distributed processing is a crucial technology influencing future research and development across various academic and industrial sectors. This symposium gathered computer scientists, engineers, applied mathematicians, and researchers to present and discuss ideas, results, and experiences in parallel and distributed computing for scientific and engineering applications. The event received numerous paper submissions from 13 countries and regions, encompassing Asia, the Pacific, Europe, and North America. Each submission underwent a rigorous review by at least three program or technical committee members or external reviewers. Selecting presentations was challenging due to the high quality and interest of the submissions. Ultimately, 39 papers (30 long and 9 short) were accepted for oral presentations. We believe these papers will offer novel ideas, new results, and state-of-the-art techniques, stimulating future research in parallel and distributed processing applications.
