    • Focusing on the treatment of non-market economies (NMEs) within the multilateral trading system (MTS), this book integrates various arrangements and analyzes two sets of rules across three historical stages: shaping, weakening, and strengthening. It aims to uncover the composition and structure of NME treatment, exploring its evolving logic, processes, and the political-economic relations between NMEs and the MTS, providing a comprehensive understanding of these dynamics.

    • Efficient video compression technology and significant progress on the networking have stimulated the wide application of video streaming techniques in consumer communication systems. In spite of the progress on the networking technology with regard to the bandwidth, there are still some unsolved fundamental problems (e. g. bit errors, packet loss, dynamic of the bandwidth) with the existing networks, making it a challenge to provide stable and robust video streaming services to users, especially mobile users in the wireless networks. In this thesis, a new framework designed to enhance the robustness of streaming video in unicast and multicast system is proposed. The framework is based on unequal error protection (UEP) exploiting the unequal importance of each video packet in scalable video coding (SVC) streams. Optimized error protection strength is determined for each video packet based on the current channel conditions of all target users and the real importance of each packet. This enables a very efficient usage of the total transmission bandwidth or throughput of the underlying networks. To evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme, it was compared to the simulcast scheme based on different H.264 streams and layer based UEP scheme using based on SVC streams. The proposed scheme in this thesis shows significant improvements in terms of the robustness of video streaming under varying channel conditions for both unicast and multicast applications.

The evolution of international trade theory has resulted in a multitude of theories and concepts, yet these often present partial and conflicting views of economic interactions. Various trade models exist alongside one another without a coherent structure, leaving students grappling with incompatible theories in a single course. To address this inconsistency, a unified theoretical framework is essential to integrate the diverse branches of trade theory into an organized system. This book offers an accessible analytical engine that illuminates trade theory and its connections to broader issues such as inequality, saving habits, education, research policy, and knowledge. By constructing and analyzing various adaptable models within a cohesive framework, it enables readers to perceive economic life as a continuous process of physical and human capital accumulation, innovation driven by competition, monopoly, and government intervention. Beginning with traditional static trade theories, the book progresses to dynamic models that incorporate capital and knowledge in contexts of perfect and monopolistic competition. Its distinctive contribution lies in modeling trade dynamics comprehensively.

This book is concerned with dynamic relations between urban division of labor, division of consumption and determination of prices structure within a perfectly competitive framework in spatial economy. Our analytical framework examines the issues related to urban dynamics raised in the traditional urban economic theories and provides insights into the issues related to interdependence between knowledge creation and utilization and spatial economies examined by the new urban/regional economic theory. The comparative advantage of our theory is that in providing rich insights into the complex of urban evolution it uses only a few concepts and simplified functional forms and accepts a few assumptions about the behavior of consumers, producers and institutional structures over space.

Over more than two centuries, economic theory has developed a diverse range of concepts and insights. My recent work illustrates how various economic theories, including Marxian, Keynesian, general equilibrium, and neoclassical growth theories, can be analyzed within a unified theoretical framework. It aims to synthesize these disparate branches into a cohesive system of knowledge. This book is part of my broader economic theory, which incorporates endogenous factors such as population, capital, knowledge, preferences, the sexual division of labor, consumption, institutions, economic structures, and exchange values across time and space. As an extension focused on the dynamics of national economies, this work seeks to construct a comprehensive theory of international trade. It explores the dynamic relationships between international division of labor, consumption patterns, and price structures in the global economy. We investigate the interdependence of capital accumulation, knowledge creation, economic growth, price structures, and international trade patterns under conditions of free competition. Our theory is built upon a few key concepts within a compact framework, aiming to provide a clearer understanding of these complex interactions.

This book constructs an economic theory that can be studied like the I Ching, featuring multiple patterns within a cohesive whole. It encompasses various components, each representing a consistent unity. Central to my economic theory are concepts such as endogenous population, capital, knowledge, preferences, the sexual division of labor, consumption, institutions, economic structures, and exchange values across time and space. The process of systematizing these ideas has been long and laborious, involving the formulation of a grand vision in the sense of Schumpeter, alongside the search for and creation of numerous ideas, of which only a few have endured. Completing this book is a culmination of these efforts. I recall Schumpeter's belief that new ideas must be meticulously elaborated, defended, and promoted to gain traction, as well as Keynes' insight that the challenge lies not in generating new ideas but in breaking free from entrenched old ones. Additionally, Confucius emphasized the significance of timing in the advancement of principles. I completed this work at the Swedish Institute for Futures Studies and am grateful for the supportive environment fostered by its staff, particularly acknowledging Professor Ake E. Andersson, my Ph.D. supervisor.
