En savoir plus sur le livre

Honeymooners Viktor and Liesel Landauer, embodying the optimism of 1920s central Europe, meet modernist architect Rainer von Abt, who designs their dream home, the Landauer House. This masterpiece reflects their hopes for a bright future, filled with children, friends, and a vibrant community of artists eager to embrace the avant-garde. However, as life unfolds, their home also reveals their deepest desires and hidden secrets. Viktor seeks solace in an affair, while Liesel finds excitement with her adventurous friend Hana, straining their marriage. The initial idealism of the 1930s fades as the shadows of World War II loom. With the Nazi threat rising, the family must abandon their life and escape to America, fleeing Viktor's Jewish heritage and the disintegration of their family unit. As they struggle for survival abroad, their beloved home changes hands, passing from Czech to Nazi to Soviet control, and ultimately back to the Czechoslovak state. Each new inhabitant feels the Glass Room's magnetic allure, which inspires and captivates them. Eventually, the Landauers are drawn back to their origins, returning to the place where their journey began, as the house continues to exert its powerful influence.
