The aim of this PhD thesis was to synthesize a broad set of mono-, bis- and tris(imidazole-2-thione) substituted P(III) and P(V) derivatives, while providing full flexibility on the substitution pattern at both nitrogen and phosphorus centers. Further major objectives: examining the oxidative and reductive desulfurization of P-functional imidazole-2-thiones synthesis of backbone P-functional imidazolium ionic liquids (“FILs”) obtaining new P-functional imidazol-2-ylidenes and imidazol-2-ylidene metal complexes synthesis of imidazole-derived low-coordinate cationic and anionic phosphorus compounds
