En savoir plus sur le livre
This dictionary comprehensively covers the lexicon of Tocharian A, one of the two Tocharian languages in the Indo-European family. Documented primarily in manuscripts from Buddhist monasteries in the Tarim Basin, Xinjiang, China, these texts date back to the latter half of the 1st millennium CE. The dictionary includes a thesaurus based on all identified Tocharian A texts, both published and unpublished, across various collections. It significantly expands on the earlier dictionary by Pavel Poucha from 1955, which was limited to the Turfan collection. This work features a complete revision of the Dictionary and Thesaurus of Tocharian A, Volume 1 (2009), which only covered the lexicon from A to J. Each word form, including variants, is listed with references to occurrences and sample passages in transcription and translation. Definitions of many words have been refined and corrected compared to previous glossaries, with lemmas also including corresponding items in Tocharian B where applicable. References for each lemma facilitate access to prior secondary literature, and many entries provide philological insights into critical passages. The dictionary emphasizes phraseology and literary parallels with other Central Asian Buddhist texts, while tracing the sources of loanwords from Tocharian B, Old and Middle Indo-Aryan, Iranian, Old Turkic, and Chinese.
