Taxonomy of Oligocene to Early Miocene scleractinian corals from Iran, Egypt, Turkey, and Greece

En savoir plus sur le livre

The present work deals with studies of taxonomy of Oligocene to early Miocene scleractinian corals of four countries. The studies were carried out at Qom Basin and Isfahan-Sirjan Basin in the Iranian Plate, and Zagros Mountains in the Arabian Plate, all three in Iran; Mut Basin (Turkey), Northern Gulf of Suez (Egypt) and the Mesohellenic Basin (Greece). The aim of this project was the palaeobiogeographical reconstruction of the eastern Mediterranean and western Indopacific regions and the temporal determination of the closure of the Tethyan Seaway. In order to get a comprehensive palaeobiogeographical overview the most important marine organisms were studied. Besides the scleractinian corals, molluscs (gastropods and bivalves), larger foraminifera, and echinoids were investigated.
