Depositional environments in the lower Devonian siliciclastics of the Rhenohercynian Basin (Rheinisches Schiefergebirge, W-Germany)

En savoir plus sur le livre

The main targets of this paper are analysis, interpretation, and reconstruction of the depositional palaeoenvironments of th Lower Devonian siliciclastics within the Rhenohercynian Basin. For this purpose, columnar sections and data of large outcrops have been collected along the Rhine transect between Bonn and Bingen. The rock sequences, some of them more than 150 m in thickness, have been analyzed as individual case studies. Understanding and interpretation of the depositional palaeoenvironments are supported by regional geologic data, lithology, primary depositional features, and biologic remains. The vertical evolution of the sedimentary sequences in the columnar sections favoured the understanding of the Rhenohercynian basin fill.
