En savoir plus sur le livre
This work explores the conceptualization of emotions across various cultures, emphasizing the influence of national character and language. It begins with an examination of emotions like "sadness" and "anger" in Russian, highlighting the non-universality of basic human emotions. The discussion extends to the cultural dynamics of the new Russians and the relationship between Russian national character and language. Japanese values are also analyzed, particularly the concept of "omoiyari," which represents a unique form of empathy, alongside an exploration of sound symbolic emotion words. The text further delves into different approaches to basic emotions, focusing on anger and fear. It investigates emotion-specific metaphors across languages, including Polish and Zulu, and offers insights into the conceptualization of fear in Modern Greek. Additionally, the work addresses how emotions are expressed through grammar and discourse, examining emotional causality in prepositional phrases and the semantics of various Russian constructions. The ideology surrounding honour and emotion in Tagalog is also discussed, along with the use of vagueness as a euphemistic strategy. The analysis extends to the language of emotion in Dholuo, drawing from literary examples, and concludes with a focus on the semantics and pragmatics of emotion verb complementation.
