The "small guides" showcase churches, monasteries, and other artistic sites in Europe, creating a richly illustrated library of art treasures. They provide concise, accessible overviews of history, architecture, and significance, complemented by modern layouts and stunning photographs. Over 270 "big guides" offer more detailed information, with some monuments available as audio guides.

Kloster Seeon opened in 1993 as the Upper Bavarian Centre of Culture and Education, bringing the former abbey back into the public eye. Its intellectual traditions, which date back many centuries, can now be fostered in a new perspective. And although Kloster Seeon is no longer a community of monks, the Benedictine Rule is a timeless thread that inspires contemporary operations. Lothar Altmann’s Art Guide describes the history, construction, architectural particularities and noteworthy sights of this one-time Benedictine abbey, founded in the late 10th century on the shores of the Chiemsee, whose scriptorium ranked in the early Middle Ages as one of the leading producers of manuscripts in Europe.

The medieval historian Dr. Stephanie Haarländer sheds light on the early, fabled history of the monastery and traces its development up to the present day. The art historian Dr. Lothar Altmann reports extensively about the architectural and decorative history of the abbey and the church, provides a description of its location and layout, and elaborates on the architecture and furnishings of the Asam Church. An excursion is dedicated to the shrine of Our Lady at Frauenberg. A description of Benedictine life in Weltenburg today is made by Abbot Thomas M. Freihart OSB. Short biographies of the artists and craftsmen working in Weltenburg as well as extensive references to literature round off the richly illustrated volume. The photographs were newly taken by the renowned Munich photographer Achim Bunz.
