    Sebastian Bergman is teruggekeerd naar zijn oude leven en heeft nog slechts sporadisch contact met Ursula van de nationale recherche. Van zijn dochter Vanja heeft hij al vier maanden niets meer gehoord. Ze woont en werkt inmiddels in Uppsala, bij de plaatselijke politie.     Osmý případ policejního psychologa Sebastiana Bergmana. Vanja Lithnerová bojuje o záchranu svého oddělení, ovšem pověst kriminalistického týmu utrpěla poté, co byl jeden z nich odhalen coby sériový vrah. Než si v týmu znovu dokážou navzájem vybudovat křehkou důvěru, je na prasečí farmě u Västerĺsu nalezena zavražděná šedesátiletá žena. Vše nasvědčuje tomu, že zločin byl spáchán se zvláštním záměrem: upoutat pozornost kriminálního psychologa Sebastiana Bergmana. Sebastian v průběhu let pomohl kriminálce vyřešit hned několik případů, ale po nedávných událostech je z něj persona non grata. Nikdo si není jistý, co jeho návrat do týmu způsobí. Mezitím je jeden jeho bývalý klient nalezen mrtvý. Sebastianem tato skutečnost otřese, jelikož k sobě měli blízko a spojovala je dávná tragédie. Vyšetřování se posouvá do osobní roviny a Sebastianův soukromý a pracovní život se proplétají.
