En savoir plus sur le livre
A solid vocabulary is essential for effective communication, testing, and writing. Using a contextual approach, students learn to pronounce unfamiliar words, identify similarities, use them in context, break them down into parts, and look them up. This vocabulary series features 3,000 carefully selected words from literature, textbooks, and SAT-prep materials. Each lesson starts with a Word List that includes pronunciations, parts of speech, and concise definitions, using each word in an engaging contextual sentence. Instruction incorporates reading, writing, and various activities to firmly associate words with their contexts. Book 5 consists of 20 lessons, each with 15 words, focusing on sophisticated vocabulary instruction while preparing students for content area learning. The lessons enhance vocabulary, reading, writing, and critical thinking skills. Comprehension is reinforced through five different exercises in each lesson, along with reading first strategies and Greek and Latin roots. This third edition retains the same word lists as the second edition but updates the passages and questions, assigning measures from The Lexile Framework for Reading. Note that this edition is not compatible with the second edition's teacher's guides and resources. Words taught include decline, hostile, obscure, loathe, exult, and more. 232 two-tone pages, softcover. Grade 5.
