This book presents an engaging way to learn and apply general rules of thumb through a structured format. It is divided into two main sections: an overview and a quiz. The overview features a chronological collection of 52 Euro-cultural rules of thumb, highlighting elements we can still observe in museums, theaters, churches, and our own homes. The quiz section contains 26 blocks, each with six questions followed by answers and additional information, including the year related to the principle in the overview. To aid retention, principles reappear shortly after their first mention, with subsequent occurrences spaced further apart. Each principle typically corresponds to three or four questions. The book concludes with a list of recommended literature, making it suitable for self-study or organizing quiz events. The author, Prof. Dr. Joachim Grzega, is a Eurolinguist focused on the interplay between language and culture in Europe. He has taught at various universities, directed Europäisches Haus Pappenheim, and currently leads the “Innovative Europäische Sprachlehre” project at VHS Donauwörth, in addition to heading ASEcoLi (Academy for SocioEconomic Linguistics).
