The second edition features significant revisions while maintaining the original concept of a concise yet rigorous mathematical treatment focused on computer applications to real datasets. Key enhancements include the incorporation of R as a statistical analysis tool, reflecting its maturity and growing popularity. Chapter 3 now includes a section on bootstrap estimation methods, which have become widely used in practice. Chapter 6 has been revised to provide a clearer explanation of tree classifiers, including the QUEST approach. Chapter 7 has seen several improvements, such as a detailed discussion on multiple and partial correlation coefficients, enhanced coverage of ridge regression, and increased focus on model evaluation.
