Z braku tlenu upadłem na kolana, gdy nagle przeleciał pode mną płonący silnik numer trzy. Pochyliłem się, żeby wyskoczyć, ale zanim otworzyłem spadochron, uderzyłem w statecznik poziomy, łamiąc trzy kręgi. Kiedy się ocknąłem, zobaczyłem myśliwca Bf 109, który pędził w moją stronę. Zacząłem kołysać czaszą, a pilot Messerschmitta otworzył boczną szybę i zasalutował. Opadałem nad plażą nieco na północ od Cherbourga, słysząc świszczące pociski, więc ściągnąłem linki czaszy, aby spadochron opadł jak najszybciej. Gdy znalazłem się nad kanałem La Manche, spojrzałem w dół i zobaczyłem wodę. Wyczepiłem się z pasów i spadłem do morza. Z powodu pękniętego kręgosłupa z trudem płynąłem do brzegu. Tuż nad moją głową przeleciał Bf 109, a niemiecki statek z załogą zbliżał się. Niemiecki oficer wycelował we mnie z pistoletu, krzycząc „Stój!”. Rzucili we mnie boją i podnieśli z wody. Po chwili otrzymałem szklankę sznapsa, filiżankę kawy, a lekarz marynarki usunął odłamki pocisku z mojej twarzy. Powiedział: „Dla ciebie wojna już się skończyła.” Capt. Foster miał trudności z otwarciem spadochronu, a po wylądowaniu na polu leżał z poranioną nogą. Nagle z jednej strony nadbiegli wściekli chłopi, a z drugiej strony przyjechał mały samochód z żołnierzami, którzy uratowali go przed linczem.

Bilingual Polish/English text.The third part of the monograph on the Focke-Wulf Fw 190 is mainly devoted to the operational history of the ground-attack and fighter-bomber units operating this type. Describes the battles over the English Channel, on the Eastern and Western Front, over North Africa and Italy. One chapter is also devoted to the actions beyond the Arctic Circle. The author uncoveres the fates of particular fighter units as well as individual pilots who fought in them.

Bilingual Polish/English.The second part of the monograph on the Focke-Wulf Fw 190 concentrates on the operational history of the fighter units flying this type. Starting with the combat debut over the North Sea and English Channel, the book descibes the activities of Fw 190s in comparison with the British Spitfire fighter and the initial dominance of the Focke-Wulfs over their opponents. Afterwards, features the actions over the Western Front, including the Defense of the Reich and heavy battles against U.S. four-engined bombers. The operations on the Eastern Front and in North Africa and Italy are also covered.
