Jeho práce si nemůžete – dokonce ani ve SF, žánru, který je na různá překvapení a neobvyklosti více než bohatý – splést s ničím jiným. Zvláštní vizionářskou a snovou atmosféru promíšenou nečekanými řešeními a nápady snad ani nejde napodobit. Český čtenář se zatím mohl seznámit jen s několika autorovými povídkami roztroušenými v dlouhých časových obdobích po časopisech a antologiích. Celkový pohled na dílo Cordwainera Smithe, to je ale něco zcela odlišného. Smith totiž patří k oněm autorům, kteří si vypracovali vlastní dějiny budoucnosti a do jejich rámce pak zasazovali svá díla.
