Most na Soči is a key prehistoric site in Europe, renowned for its extensive Early Iron Age cemetery, which was excavated in the late 19th century, revealing over 6000 burials. The rapid development of the village in the 1970s prompted further archaeological excavations that lasted eleven years, uncovering one of the most significant Iron Age settlements in Slovenia and the broader southeastern Alpine region. The publication begins with a geographic overview of the site, followed by a comprehensive history of research and a list of previous contributions. The main section focuses on the thirty-six houses excavated in the eastern part of the village, providing new insights into the living conditions of the Iron Age inhabitants of Caput Adriae. Data from the excavations allowed for the reconstruction of the settlement's layout and construction techniques, detailing drainage walls, foundations, floors, wooden structures, and production processes like metallurgy and pottery. Accompanied by 229 plans and photographs, the text offers detailed descriptions of the structures. The book concludes with illustrations of small finds, primarily pottery, but also stone, bone, and metal artifacts, which are crucial for dating and demonstrate the advanced skills of contemporary craftsmen.
