This collection of articles offers readers a cross-section of current research on contemporary and historical concepts and representations of (cultural) values as documented in popular culture, public space, the arts, works of literature and in ethnic contexts. The contributors to this volume are from the US, Algeria, Germany, Italy, Croatia, Albania, Serbia, Turkey, and Austria. Their very different cultural, ideological, scientific, academic and non-academic perspectives and backgrounds allow insights from many different viewpoints.

Images of Istanbul is a photographic album devoted to the permanently changing urban face of Istanbul, Turkey. The book captures the manifold character of the city as experienced by Veronika Bernard, a regular visitor to the city. The 63 photos were taken between the years 2005-2014 as part of her digital arts projects 'Ornamental Abstractions' and 'Snapshots,' and also as part of her academic projects 'Breaking the StereoType' and 'Images,' the latter of which she developed together with Serhan Oksay, an Istanbul-based photographer, in 2010. IMAGES (II) - Images of the Poor offers readers a cross-section of current research on the perception of poverty and on contemporary and historical representations of poverty coming from a variety of fields in people's daily lives. The fact that the international group of contributors to this book come from very different cultural, ideological, scientific/academic perspectives, and backgrounds is adding even more to the diversity of thought and ideas documented.
