Charles Simonds Livres

Die Little People begleiten den New Yorker Künstler Charles Simonds seit vielen Jahrzehnten. Für diese imaginäre Bevölkerung baut Simonds in Stadtvierteln der ganzen Welt winzige Behausungen aus ungebranntem Ton, sogenannte Dwellings. Gemeinsam mit Charles Simonds schufen Schülerinnen und Schüler zwischen Mai und September dieses Jahres in verschiedenen Stadtteilen Münchens ihre eigenen kleinen Siedlungen. Das Projekt wird nun abschließend in einer Publikation vorgestellt.

Cracking is an artist's book about a woman archaeologist who in the process of an excavation is drawn into the imaginary world of Simonds's Little People, as created in his sculptures. Originally published by Buchhandlung Walther Konig in 1978, in German, this is the first edition with the original English text, the only fiction Lucy Lippard has written with an artist.

For the past forty-five years Charles Simonds has built dwelling places for an imaginary civilization of Little People in the streets of neighborhoods throughout the world. In “Dwelling” he recounts his adventures in Paris, Berlin, Shanghai and the Lower East Side of New York, along with his own personal musings about the Little People and the world’s reactions to them.
