Das Buch erzählt die Geschichte von Dumeni Tubak, seiner Familie und verschiedenen Vögeln, darunter Krähen und Elstern. Besonders im Fokus steht das Grasmückenpärchen Zizi und Zizewi, das sein Nest in einer Berberitze baut.
