(Boosey & Hawkes Scores/Books). Composed for string quartet plus two pre-recorded quartets, Triple Quartet can also be played live by three string quartets with no pre-recording.
In one movement. With program and performance notes in English, German, and French. Commissioned by the Carnegie Hall Corporation, Los Angeles Philharmonic Association, The Barbican, Kölner Philharmonie/Köln Musik GmbH, and Philharmonie de Paris. Premiere
Scored for eight cellos, this composition can be performed by either a soloist with pre-recorded parts or by a Cello Octet, featuring variations in part distribution. The work consists of three movements: fast, slow, and fast, with the outer movements based on a four-chord cycle that oscillates between C minor and E-flat major. The slow movement presents a canon in E-flat minor, culminating with seven distinct voices. Co-commissioned by prominent institutions, it lasts just over 11 minutes and was created for cellist Maya Beiser.
Inspired by the events of September 11th, this three-movement composition uniquely integrates recorded voices from NORAD air traffic controllers, FDNY personnel, and residents of the Ground Zero area. The work aims to capture the emotional depth and historical significance of that day, providing a powerful auditory experience. An audio component for performance is available directly from the publisher, enhancing the overall presentation of this poignant tribute.
