Boris Strugatzki (1933–2012) zählt zusammen mit seinem Bruder Arkadi (1925–1991) zu den erfolgreichsten russischen Autoren der modernen Science-Fiction und Phantastik, ihre Bücher sind in über 30 Sprachen übersetzt. Viele ihrer Romane wurden verfilmt. Arkadi Strugatzki, geboren 1925, war ein sowjetischer Schriftsteller. Er wurde während seiner Armeezeit zum Japanisch-Dolmetscher ausgebildet und verbrachte so die Kriegsjahre im Osten Russlands. Später war er als Verlagslektor und Übersetzer in Moskau tätig. Arkadi Strugatzki verstarb 1991 in Sankt Petersburg (Russland)

Здесь фантастический сюжет послушно следует за реальными, отнюдь не фантастическими нравственными проблемами, которые ставят перед нами писатели. ХВВ — «Хищные вещи века». Эта повесть тоже о революции, о ее нравственных последствиях. Стругацкие предсказали «черные дыры» научно-технического прогресса, ловушки для миллионов и миллионов людей.
