This richly illustrated architecture guide introduces all new buildings that have been built since the opening of the Berlin Wall in 1989. Photographs of each building and square are completed with short background information about the location and its history. Den Bildhauer Georg Petel als Wegbereiter des Barock in Deutschland zeigte 2007 eine viel beachtete Ausstellung im Haus der Kunst München, deren wissenschaftlicher Ertrag hier vorliegt. Die Beiträge behandeln u. a. seine Elfenbeinarbeiten, Modelle für Großbronzen und kleine Silberschmiedarbeiten, Zeichnungen und Holzplastiken.

Frans Post (1612–1680) gilt als erster namhafter Porträtist der neuen Welt. 1637 reiste er im Gefolge des Prinzen Johann Moritz von Nassau-Siegen nach Pernambuco im heutigen Nordosten Brasiliens und hielt das „Papageienland“, das auf Europäer wirkte wie ein vorsintflutliches Paradies, in zahlreichen Zeichnungen und Gemälden fest. Wegen ihrer nahezu fotografischen Abbildungstreue gehören sie heute zu den wertvollsten Bildzeugnissen dieser Epoche. Nach seiner Rückkehr eroberte sich Frans Post mit brasilianischen Landschaften eine exotische Nische auf dem niederländischen Kunstmarkt. Das Buch liefert eine Übersicht zum Werk des Malers, zu Fragen seiner gemalten Tier- und Pflanzenwelt sowie Architektur. South African-born, Amsterdam-based painter Marlene Dumas (born 1953) focuses primarily on the human figure, often making explicit nods to the history of portraiture. In this monograph, she contextualizes her figurative work by placing it in a visual dialogue with paintings by sixteenth- and seventeenth-century Flemish and Dutch masters including Pieter Bruegel the Elder, Anthony van Dyck, Frans Hals, Rembrandt van Rijn, Peter Paul Rubens and Johannes Vermeer. This book concentrates on Dumas' "tronies"--that supremely Dutch genre of painting faces and heads to serve as model expositions of facial expressions and character types. These works on paper, which include the Black Drawings (1991-92) and Models (1994), explore facial structure and emotional expression in ways that resonate with and make overtures towards these earlier paintings and the continuum of art history.
