Eric Malpass (1910-1996) hat in seinem Heimatland Großbritannien lange Jahre als Bankangestellter gearbeitet. 1947 wurde er Mitarbeiter der BBC, außerdem schrieb er für diverse Zeitungen. Er verfasste zahlreiche Romane und lebte als freier Schriftsteller in Long Eton, nahe Nottingham. Mit dem kleinen Herzensbrecher Gaylord ist Eric Malpass eine der originellsten Jungenfiguren der modernen Literatur gelungen, ernsthaft und liebenswert zugleich.
