      Un ouvrage si rare, en français du moins, qu'il est introuvable en librairie, hormis chez quelques bouquinistes, où il atteint des prix assez conséquents, selon l'état. Et pourtant, Firenzuola a bénéficié de traductions dès le XVI° siècle, une par Gabriel Chappuys, qui a intégré une de ses nouvelles dans ses "Facétieuses Journées" publiées en 1584, mais aussi par Pierre Larivey (1540-1619), édition non précisée, non datée. Plus près de nous, une édition en 1881, traduite par Alcide Bonneau (et dont est tirée la présente), ainsi qu'en 1913 par B. de Villeneuve. L'édition de 1881 a d'ailleurs rencontré un tel succès, qu'elle a été traduite en anglais, en 1886. On l'a qualifié de licencieux ; je préfère y voir une critique des moeurs relâchées de la Renaissance.
