Choć w ostatnim czasie wielu innych autorów zgłębiało ten temat (zarówno po stronie fiction, jak i n-f), książka Dr Hansona w typowym dla niego stylu łączy historię, biologię, a także reportaż. To jego bardzo osobiste spojrzenie na zanikający świat pszczół i pszczelarzy na całym świecie i próba zmierzenia się z coraz bardziej ponurymi faktami. Pszczoły pozostają w newsowej czołówce od dłuższego czasu. Tylko w ubiegłym roku Google News odnotowało 2,500 artykułów na ich temat.
