El atlas debe en primer lugar ser de utilidad como una visión general y proveer información sobre temas centrales de la Bioquímica en forma gráfica y compacta. Para la diagramación gráfica de esta obra se crearon nuevos signos y símbolos, así como también modelos visuales, que permitieran exponer de manera más concreta ciertos fenómenos de difícil percepción. Es así como han surgido necesariamente ciertas formas supuestas con gran subjetividad. Los contenidos, en parte complejos, de los cuadros ilustrativos nos obligaron a reducirnos a lo esencial. El objetivo fue una transposición simple, pero estética visualmente y fácil de retener. La cuarta edición del atlas fue revisada completamente a fin de liberar al estudiante de Medicina del lastre referido a las Ciencias Naturales, y al mismo tiempo enriquecerlo con información sobre alteraciones bioquímicas patológicas, en concordancia con el catálogo de temas del Instituto recomendado para los cuestionarios de examen para Medicina y Farmacia. En esta revisión nos hemos esforzado por no apartarnos del concepto original de la obra.
