Hlavním hrdinou knihy je poloviční vlk, Bílý tesák. Sledujeme jeho životní pouť od štěněte po dospělost. Bílý tesák pobývá mezi indiány, jenže pak ho jeho pán prodá. Stává se drsným bojovníkem v psích zápasech. Dočká se vůbec ještě svobody a volnosti.
