Krátké texty a zamyšlení o kamenech s obdivem k jejich krásám a tajemstvím. Kameny jsou v díle Rogera Cailloise nezanedbatelným tématem. V roce 1962 začíná psát „Kameny“, texty věnované kamenům samotným, bez potřeby něco srovnávat. Při těchto meditacích nad kameny jak píše, „jakoby získal něco z jejich přirozenosti“.
Dílo „Hry a lidé: maska a závrať“ francouzského sociologa a antropologa navazuje na díla J. Huizingy (Homo ludens) a E. Finka (Oáza štěstí). Podává základní definici pojmu „hra“ a snaží se vysvětlit fenomén hry v jeho sémantické, sociální i antropologické rovině. Ukazuje vliv a význam hry v jednotlivých kulturách – starověkých, východních, v kulturách přírodních národů apod. Podle toho, zda ve hře převažuje princip soutěže, náhody, chování „jako by“ nebo závrati, klasifikuje čtyři základní skupiny her. Na rozdíl od předchozích dvou autorů píšících o teorii her, Caillois rozebírá ve svém díle navíc také aktuální problematiku hazardních her.
