In spite of its ultimate failure, the Battle of the Bulge did have an important effect on the War and its aftermath: it slowed the Allies down, resulting in more territory being ceded to the Russian sphere of influence at the War's end. Ofenziva Tet, kterou realizovala severovietnamská armáda spolu s jihovietnamskými prokomunistickými guerillami v poslední lednový den roku 1968, fakticky rozhodla o výsledku vietnamské války. V průběhu měsíce února byly sice severovietnamské jednotky i jihovietnamské guerilly poraženy a rozbity, vojenský úspěch americké armády a jejích spojenců však byl naprosto negován politickými dopady celé akce. Na základě účinné severovietnamské propagandy, doplněné neobjektivním informováním amerických reportérů, ztratilo americké politické vedení podporu občanů k pokračování ve válce. Tím zůstaly americké ozbrojené síly osamoceny a postupně podléhaly demoralizaci. Protivník byl ochoten pokračovat v bojových akcích bez ohledu na ztráty, zatímco americká veřejnost se vůči dalšímu vedení válečných akcí a ztrátám (násobně nižším, než na nepřátelské straně) vymezovala negativně. Publikace stručnou formou představuje klíčové prvky těchto bojových akcí a provádí jejich celkový vojenský i politický rozbor. Text je doplněn množstvím fotografických, obrazových i mapových příloh.

Bitva v Ardenách, kterou Američané označují jako "bitvu o výběžek", byla posledním vážným německým pokusem zvrátit zoufalou situaci na západoevropském válčišti. Tři německé armády tu prorazily slabou americkou obrannou linii a snažily se proniknout náročným horským terénem k řece Maase. Jejich pečlivě naplánovaný postup však byl nejprve zpomalen a posléze zcela zastaven – na jižním (prostor Bastogne) i na severním křídle. Američané dokázali zmobilizovat veškeré možné síly a německý útok nakonec zastavili.
