Die »Kinder- und Hausmärchen« der Brüder Jacob und Wilhelm Grimm, erstmals erschienen in zwei Bänden 1812 und 1815, gehören zum unvergänglichen Schatz der Weltliteratur. Pełne wydanie, znane jako „Kinder- und Hausmärchen”, ukazało się w 1857 roku i zostało wpisane na Światową Listę Dziedzictwa Kulturowego UNESCO w 2005 roku. Przetłumaczone na ponad 160 języków, jest jednym z najbardziej rozpoznawalnych dzieł niemieckiej kultury, obok Biblii Lutra. Niniejsza dwutomowa edycja opiera się na kanonicznym zbiorze z 1857 roku, a jej tłumaczeniem oraz posłowiem zajęła się Eliza Pieciul-Karmińska. Dzięki jej pracy, baśnie te zostały uwolnione od dydaktyzmu i patyny czasu, oferując nową jakość. Ilustracje do zbioru stworzył Otto Ubbelohde, niemiecki artysta związany z secesją, znany z pejzaży i martwych natur.
