The concept of niche had its origin in a paper by Grinnell (1917) who defined it as "the species position in a community." In 1957 Hutchinson added a dimensional formulation to the concept. Since Hutchinson's article, research on niche has expanded exponentially, and niche has become a central concept for the theory of natural communities and for the interpretation of species evolution. This volume presents 41 papers on niche beginning with the Grinnell (1917) paper. No ownership marks and no signs of use.
