Luke Kennard is an award-winning poet, critic and dramatist. His first collection of prose poems The Solex Brothers was published by Stride Books. He has worked as regional editor for Succour, a bi-annual journal of poetry and short fiction and as an associated reader for The Kenyon Review.

Luke Kennard recasts Shakespeare's 154 sonnets as a series of anarchic prose poems set in the same joyless house party. Mikulov, malebné město na samé hranici s Rakouskem, představuje jeden ze symbolů úrodné a sluncem zalité jižní Moravy. Má za sebou několik století své existence, která rozhodně nebyla vždy jen radostná, jak by se ze vzhledu města mohlo zdát. Malá osada tvořící zázemí původně zeměpanského strážního hradu, se postupně proměnila v kvetoucí poddanské město, úzce svázané s honosným sídlem nejprve Lichtenštejnů a poté Ditrichštejnů. Během svého vývoje bylo město několikrát postiženo vojenskými taženími i různě rozsáhlými požáry. I přes všechnu nepřízeň osudu však Mikulov vzkvétal a rostl, aby byl nakonec staletý vývoj města násilně přerván nuceným odchodem jeho převážně německých a židovských obyvatel.

Seven Přemyslid Cults / Kulty svatých byly ve středověku nejen přirozenou součástí každodenního života, ale i významným politickým a státoprávním nástrojem. S Přemyslovci je spojeno celkem sedm kultů domácího původu. Konkrétně se jedná o kulty čtyř mužů: knížete Václava, pražského biskupa Vojtěcha, sázavského opata Prokopa a šumavského poustevníka Vintíře, a tří žen: kněžny Ludmily, svatojiřské abatyše Mlady a abatyše pražských klarisek Anežky. Úcta k těmto světcům vznikala postupně od 10. do 14. století, někdy hned po jejich smrti, jindy s menším či větším časovým odstupem. K oboustranně výhodnému spojení světce s dynastií pak docházelo buď hned na samém počátku kultu, nebo až (mnohem) později, když o něj projevil zájem panovník. Úctu v tom případě iniciovala příslušná duchovní instituce, která časem dokázala získat i podporu vladaře. Zatímco některé z těchto kultů se prosadily v celém státě i za jeho hranicemi, jiné zůstaly jen okrajové, omezené ve své působnosti pouze na místo svého vzniku. Zkoumání geneze kultů českých patronů, zde poprvé provedené v takovém detailu, vedlo k posunu v dataci a filiaci jednotlivých textů, které, jak známo, mají podstatný podíl na výpovědi o starším českém středověku. Tato kniha proto nabízí i novou interpretaci určitých kapitol z dějin této epochy.
