Ludwig Mies van der Rohe (1886-1969) fut l'un des pères fondateurs de l'architecture moderne. Créateur du Pavillon de Barcelone, de la maison Farnsworth à Piano et de l'immeuble Seagram à New-York, Mies fut l'un des découvreurs d'un nouveau style architectural. Bien connu pour son leitmotiv « moins, c'est plus », il cherchait une sorte de pureté raffinée dans l'architecture, qui ne n'existait pas dans les créations des autres membres du Bauhaus.
