For most of the Second World War, the RAF flew small aircraft into Occupied France at night, landing and taking off in total secrecy. Their mission was to transport agents to and from France to support the activities of the French Resistance and SOE. The chronicle of these operations tells an extraordinary adventure story, full of danger for both agent and aviator. Hugh Verity flew many of the missions recounted in 'We Landed by Moonlight' and was probably the most outstanding pick-up pilot of them all.

Transportní lety sloužily k přepravě agentů a dalších důležitých osob, které se potřebovaly dostat do Anglie vzhledem k jejich činnosti prospěšné spojeneckému válečnému úsilí. Byla napsána z úhlu pohledu velitele dopravní letky 161 perutě RAF mezi listopadem 1942 a listopadem 1943. Současně stopuje historii těchto "dodávkových letů" od jejich začátku až do poloviny roku 1944, kdy autor organizoval tajné letecké operace v Evropě pro Special Operations Executive /SOE/. Také je v ní rozsáhle čerpáno ze vzpomínek mnoha dalších, kteří se na těchto akcích podíleli.
