Albert Kesselring, narozený 3. října 1882 v Poznani, sepsal po propuštění z vězení roku 1952 své životní vzpomínky. Po službě v Bavorském královském vojsku a reichswehru následoval prudký kariérní vzestup ve wehrmachtu. Již roku 1937 se stal generálem letectva, roku 1939 1. letecké armády, s níž se účastnil tažení proti Polsku, během západního tažení roku 1940 velel 2. letecké armádě a do prosince 1941 ji řídil i na východní frontě. Poté jako velitel jižního úseku velel německým leteckým silám ve Středomoří a v severní Africe. V březnu 1944 ho Hitler jmenoval vrchním velitelem na Západě. Ve svých vzpomínkách Kesselring líčí pohnutky svých rozhodnutí a jednání.
