C'est l'histoire émouvante et mystérieuse d'une petite Cendrillon d'Afrique, que ses sœurs jalouses oublient dans la forêt. Capturée par un monstre effrayant, répondant au nom de Trimode, Rafara est engraissée afin d'être dégustée par cet énorme bonhomme recouvert de motifs géométriques. La fillette, enfermée dans l'antre du monstre, fait la rencontre d'une petite souris qui va lui sauver la vie.Ce petit rongeur lui donne un bâton, une pierre et un œuf. Chacun de ces objets issus du quotidien va servir à Rafara, pour lui éviter de retomber entre les mains de Trimode. Le bâton la sépare de lui en se transformant en lac, la pierre en faisant pousser une forêt et l'œuf en faisant surgir une montagne. Finalement sauvée de Trimode, Rafara rejoint son village sur les ailes d'un grand oiseau
