E. Backhouse

    Sir Edmund Backhouse était un orientaliste et linguiste britannique dont l'œuvre a considérablement façonné les perceptions occidentales de la fin de la dynastie Qing. Cependant, des révélations posthumes ont indiqué que certaines de ses sources avaient été falsifiées, laissant incertaines l'étendue et l'origine de ces fabrications. Alors qu'un biographe l'avait célèbrement qualifié d'« escroc », les recherches ultérieures suggèrent que ses récits, souvent confabulés, pourraient également contenir des souvenirs plausibles de scènes et de détails historiques, potentiellement influencés par des préjugés personnels.
