Roger Sherman Loomis se domnívá, že původ legendy o svatém Grálu je keltský. Své mínění dokládá četnými paralelami mezi legendami artušovského okruhu a keltskými mytologickými příběhy. V nich nachází mnohé předobrazy motivů těchto legend. Látka o Grálu tak podle Loomise doputovala od Keltů do Bretaně, kde se dále předávala a rozvíjela, až byla nakonec obohacena také prvky křesťanských apokryfů a katolické teologie. Knihu přeložila Alena Chejnová. Americký medievalista Roger Sherman Loomis (1887-1966) byl badatelem zejména v oblasti artušovské tradice. Působil jako profesor na Columbia University.
