Myogenic potential of human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells applied for stem cell-based therapies
    • "A number of disorders or traumatic injuries come along with deficient or damaged musculature. In urology, e.g. stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is caused by morphological and functional defects of the external urethral sphincter muscle with great impact on socioeconomics and quality of life. Human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (hBMSC) have the potential to differentiate into both smooth and skeletal muscle cells. The xenogeneic animal model at hand demonstrates that hBMSC differentiate into striated muscle with neuronal and vascular integration. The data offer a new option for regeneration of damaged rhabdosphincters utilizing autologous adult stem cells as a causal treatment of SUI."--Page 4 of cover
