Focusing on energy-efficient management, the book explores operations research and uncertain optimization methods in urban rail transit systems. It offers innovative modeling concepts aimed at reducing tractive energy consumption and enhancing regenerative energy use. Targeted at researchers, engineers, and students in transport management, it serves as a valuable reference for advancing knowledge in sustainable transit solutions.

    • In modern hybrid video coding, rate-distortion optimization (RDO) plays a critical role. Basically, it aims at minimizing the distortion for a coding unit under a constraint over the rate, which is achieved by optimally selecting the related coding parameters. The granularity of the coding unit is important in the optimization. Theoretically, the global optimality can be obtained when the granularity of coding unit is increased to the whole video sequence. However, it is computationally infeasible because the space of control parameters for a whole sequence is too huge to be optimized. Following a strategy of “divide and conquer”, the RDO algorithms proposed in this book are in three stages.

    • These conference proceedings focus on the topic of decision-making under uncertainty, smart decisions, management simulation and their applications in operations management for power and logistics companies. The Beijing University of Chemical Technology organized IFDS2015, the 3rd International Forum on Decision Sciences, with this year's theme being “Decision Making under Uncertainty”. The proceedings collect 7 selected papers presenting the cutting-edge modeling and solution methods and including numerous practical case studies, which are of interest for researchers and practitioners alike. Teachers, students and practitioners working in the fields of decision science, operations research, management science and engineering will benefit from the valuable findings presented in this book.

The explosive economic development in China over the last three decades has created social challenges unprecedented in the country's history. In response, China has overhauled its existing tort laws and even created new tort laws. By exploring its principles, theories and history, this book provides international readers a fresh outlook on China's tort law system. Granted that some concepts or theories in China's modern tort laws were „borrowed“ from the west, the principles behind them can nevertheless often find their roots in ancient Chinese philosophies, concepts or even laws. This book also uses real cases to explain the courts' application of China's tort laws and the meaning of the corresponding statutes.
